Omaha High Low Poker Tips & Tricks
Omaha Poker has many variations, one of the most popular forms of Omaha Poker however is Omaha High Low, or Omaha 8 as it is
sometimes referred to.
Know when to fold ‘em: The old saying never rings more true than in the game of Poker. If you have a bad hand before the draw, don’t be
afraid to fold your hand and wait until next round. If you are not comfortable with your hand, it’s better to fold and only lose the Ante then
to play a weak hand and lose after putting more money in the pot.
Premature raising: Try not to make it a habit of raising until after the flop unless you hold a pair of Aces or Kings. Many people raise
early in Omaha Poker only to find later that they should have held back and waited to see what other cards they had to work with.
Low Pairs: Try not to give low pairs a higher value then they deserve. In some other variations of Poker you can get away with giving them
a higher value when betting but in Omaha High Low Poker that strategy can work against you.
The Ace Trap: It is easy to look at your pre-flop hand see a couple of Aces and feel as though you are on top of the world. Be very careful
in your betting at this point though. It is true that you should bet accordingly, however keep in the back of your mind that the flop can
change everything in an instant. Never raise too much, more than you are willing to lose if it is a flop that doesn’t play in your favor.
Some players have the strategy that betting doesn’t start in Omaha Poker until after the flop is revealed.
The 3 of a kind trap: It can be tempting when your starter hand is dealt a 3 of a kind. But unlike Texas Hold ‘em Poker, you really only have
a pair to work with. Many players fall into the trap of thinking that they have a strong 3 of a kind hand only later to find out that all they
have is a pair. It can be frustrating, but play this hand wearily as the chance of a 3 of a kind just became that much more difficult.
